I am mortified. Ashamed. Just over a week ago, I went for an annual checkup. Naturally, I had to step on the scale. I am at my heaviest ever weight, and I have no idea how I let this happen. The scale said 276. I’ve never told anyone my weight before, but I know if I don’t acknowledge it, it won’t get better. I broke down to the doctor, out of shame and sadness. She wanted to take blood work because my blood pressure was high.
I walked out the door a changed woman. I will not keep living the way I have been, because if I do, I’m asking for the rest of my life to be miserable. I’m 29, newly married and looking forward to kids. I want to ultimately lose half my weight, which would put me at 138.
The past week and a half have been meals cooked at home, no processed sugars or grains, smaller portion sizes, and lots of veggies and protein. I feel better already. I haven’t felt deprived or even wanted to go back to how I was eating. I know how long this road is going to be. I’ve put it off for so, so long.
I think I wanted to post so that I could be held accountable. Sometimes words of encouragement from people who have not experienced this journey or feeling out of control of their body can feel fake. I love reading the posts in this group. You guys are what make me know I can do this. I can be that positive post a few years from now talking about my success. I look forward to joining those ranks.
I got my blood work back and it was not pretty. Even more of a motivator, really.
Any tips and tricks to help stay on the path? Especially once that initial “gung-ho” has worn off?
