Hi guys! This will probably be long and complicated so I’ll post a tl;dr at the bottom. I’ve never posted here so if I break a rule let me know and I’ll make it right! Also, I’m posting on mobile so excuse any formatting stuff.
A little about me: I’ve been fat my entire life. I was a fat baby, a fat kid, a fat teen, and now I’m a fat young adult. I saw my weight at the doctor a few weeks ago and it was 194 (5’6, f). My thinking is that as long as I get my shit together now I won’t cross the 200lb line (I know that many people have, and they were able to lose a ton of weight. But I’d rather start now)
Since 12/13 I’ve been trying to diet or exercise but never know how much or what to do and I quit. I’m also lazy as shit and working hard to get over that.
At the beginning of the summer (home in Boulder from the Midwest) i decided to have a plant based, organic diet. I cut way back on junk food (I still eat too much but it’s better).
I think I’m in a place where I’ll be able to make healthier choices when I go back to school (we have a dining hall with good albeit small variety of vegan/veggie food and a salad bar (I’m going to force myself to wait in line for 5 minutes rather than grabbing fries which never have a long line).
Here’s the thing: in March I’ll be taking a class in Nepal for a month. I didn’t know when I signed up, but we’ll be trekking in the Himalayas for 5 days. This wouldn’t have stopped me. I did a month long backpacking trip with 4 days notice. It was hard and I fucked up my knees for a while. But I did it. Nepal is something new though.
I have no idea how to begin getting in shape. I’ve looked at work out plans but every time I try to make one that works for me, I get overwhelmed and stop.
Tuition includes a gym membership. I have access to a lot of really good work out equipment (from treadmills and free weights to heavy duty machines that the football team uses (not that I’d know what to do)).
Does anyone have any suggestions on Work out plans or what I should focus on?
I’m thinking about working out 4-5x/week for an hour, doing something like: Monday: early morning work out (legs?) Tues: upper body/abs Wed: rest day Thurs: some type of endurance training (thinking about C25K) Fri: legs/abs Sat: upper body Sun: rest day
I also want to try to do light cardio every day (30 minute walk when it’s nice out, or 20-30 minutes on the stationary bike)
Does this plan sound okay? Any tweaks? Can anyone recommend good work outs with how many reps and sets to do? Any support or advice would be great too!
Tl;dr: I’m fat and need to gain endurance and slim down to be able to trek in Nepal without dying. Suggestions?
