Hey all,
I have been struggling with weight loss for years now. Back in high school I used to be at a healthy weight and I was able to eat whatever I wanted with no consequences. As I have gotten older, I have retained these poor eating habits, but I have unfortunately not retained my fast metabolism. On top of this, I have developed anxiety and OCD, which I am being treated for. My anxiety and OCD has greatly improved since I began medication and therapy. Unfortunately, my anxiety and OCD made my stress eating worse and worse. It has come to the point where the part of my day I look most forward to is ordering fast food and devouring it.
I have tried starting CICO many times, and failed each time. I always rationalize some reason in my head to cheat - usually some sort of reason to reward myself. The issue is, after I cheat, I basically give up and tell myself I will "start" at a new date. For some odd reason, I have this mentality where I can only start on the first of a month. Due to this, if I cheated on the 16th of the month, I would end up eating terribly until the 1st of the next month.
Another good example of my terrible mentality is since my grandpa just recently died, I keep telling myself I should wait until after the funeral to start CICO because otherwise he will look down on me and be disappointed in me for concentrating on CICO instead of on his death. I know that this is just my OCD talking to me, but it is hard to stop thinking about. This is just one example of the ridiculous reasons I have put off taking weight loss seriously.
Well no more. I am starting today. I brushed the dust off my Apple Watch, downloaded Happy Scale, and entered my weight. 217.8lbs. That is a hard number to look at, but I need to confront it. I need to be honest with myself. I have put together the following plan, which I am going to follow to a "T":
-1000 calorie deficit every single day - NO EXCUSES! -Run in the morning whenever weather permits (e.g. no rain). -Update my weight in my app (Happy Scale) daily. This also updates my Apple Watch weight so my calorie burn adjusts accordingly. -Track all calories that go into my body.
I am going to follow this every single day, no excuses. No cheat days. I am going to follow this plan until I hit my goal weight of 160lbs. Once I hit my goal weight, I will begin a separate plan for maintaining my weight.
The fact of the matter is - I control what I put into my body. Nobody else does. There is no reason I cannot follow this plan every day. This whole thing is just a mental game. My brain will scream at me to eat some junk food - but when it comes down to it - it is just a thought. I may not be able to control my urges, but I can control my physical actions by not giving in to them.
Anyways - enough ranting. I am going to be active on this subreddit since I really like the community we have here. Best of luck to everyone in their weight loss journey!
