Losing weight is much more simple than what most apps and guides make it seem.

This is something I have come to notice after a lot of research into how to lose weight.

When I first started my research, I looked at apps such as myfitnesspal, where it would ask you things such as your daily activity level. The issue with this is your daily activity level can vary day to day. Also, your idea of "moderately active" can be very different than the apps idea of "moderately active". After looking for help regarding how to choose what activity level was right, I realized there really is no clear definition for any of these activity levels. This did not give me confidence in the app or plan it was putting me on.

I realized that what I was looking for was the simplest formula for losing weight. I did not want any guess work. I wanted hard numbers.

After some research, I realized that the most straightforward way of losing weight is something that many popular apps and guides do not incorporate. It is quite simple: (Basal Metabolic Rate) + (Calories Burned From Activity) = Total calories burned in one day. Then, subtract whatever deficit you want to be at, and boom, you have the amount of calories you can eat.

I find that the Apple Watch makes this extra simple, because the calories that it tells you that you have burned are calories that you have burned only through activity (e.g. NOT from your BMR). So all that I need to do is take my BMR, add my active calories I am planning on burning in the day, and subtract my desired deficit. This will give me the calories I can eat.

I guess my message is to anyone feeling overwhelmed with different apps and guides on the internet, the simplest way to lose weight is to simply follow this forumla:

(CALORIES YOU CAN EAT IN A DAY) = (BMR) + (CALORIES YOU WILL BURN FROM ANY MOVEMENT) - (DESIRED DEFICIT)

That is all there is to it. I suggest getting a fitness tracker that tells you your calories burned only from movement, this way you can just plug that into the above formula.

Anyways, I hope this helps someone out there who is struggling to understand how CICO works.
