There are a million and one ways of losing weight. Probably only 20 of those ways are actually sustainable, long term good ways to lose it. All 20 or so of them all revolve around the main idea of eating well and including some form of exercise.
BUT WHAT DO I EAT
Most of y'all know that weight loss and maintaining healthy weight is about a lifestyle change. This means you are shifting the way you think about food, what you put in your mouth, what you do to burn some calories. Since it is a lifestyle change and not another 90 day challenge you have time to really tune into what works for your body.
What I mean is that you don't need to hastily choose one thing and stick to it even though you're miserable. Like for example I tried keto because I heard amazing things about it and I felt like absolute shit every single days. I need carbs to function and I couldn't function properly.
CHANGE THE FOOD?
I made a change to going vegan and I was getting results again but still I was miserable. I found myself restricting a lot and I wasn't really happy. I liked a majority of the food I was eating but because I already had celiac disease (can't have gluten) going out to eat was absolutely impossible unless I found special restaurants which my friends didn't like.
CHANGE THE TIMING?
I then changed to intermittent fasting and liked it a lot. I was eating everything and I realized I liked the timing portion of it and that was working but not necessarily what I was eating.
IMMA DO ME
I then made an in between thing for myself. I don't really identify 100% with any of the above types of lifestyles. I created my own that works for me. I do intermittent fasting but my fast period is 14 instead of 16, I eat meat or eggs once or twice a week and avoid dairy at all costs. I do eat carbs but certain days of the week I will have less than others.
This has been proven to show the best results for me, I like how I feel, I don't find myself constantly hungry, cranky, deprived, irritated or miserable.
SCREW JUSTIFICATION BY NUMBERS
Losing weight can sometimes mean the scale won't move but you will lose a dress size - I lost 2 whole dress sizes and the scale says I gained 4 pounds.
Using the scale as a general measure is okay, if you have a specific weight goal that is fine. BUT do not solely rely on the scale and enable yourself to fall off the wagon because you are upset about the number from the scale.
Being hard on yourself for the sake of numbers and comparison is useless. Be hard on yourself when you know you are just being lazy but listen to your body when it is showing you concerns it has. If you feel like you are going to pass out please dear god eat something. If you constantly feel bloated don't stick to keto and eat cheese and red meat all day long. If you literally never feel full then maybe eat meat every once in awhile but cut down.
IT TAKES TIME TO ADJUST
Any change you make is going to require time for your body to adjust. It took you awhile to learn how to walk when you were little, took you time to learn how to drive properly, took you time to learn how to do your job properly, this will take time too.
Take it slow. Listen, I know you want to just find a way to lose the weight and make it work so you don't have to pay attention to it anymore. Truth is, you are going to need to take it down a notch, take it slow, find what works. Put in the damn work. If you put in the work you will see results.
What is one thing you will do today to reach your goals? let me know in the comments!
