A PhD officially diagnosed me as "big boned".

My background: I'm a 5'7" female, 245 pounds and 32 years old. I'm active and sporty and basically have no limitations since I've retained a semblance of athleticism since my days of track and field. I can bike on trails for 25 miles non-stop and can do a Body Pump class like none other. My blood work is perfect, never had a surgery or hospital stay. I wear it well, or so they say, but I'm still about...oh, incredibly overweight. I want to lose weight to avoid medical issues in the future and to generally feel better about my body. I'm a stress eater and just graduated from law school so I foresee my stress levels are about to go down significantly as I reenter the real world.

The issue: I went to my GP this morning because I started lazy keto last week and I want to be under medical supervision. My doctor (slight Asian woman) rolled her eyes when I said I was starting a "ketogenic diet". She told me that Atkins is a crash diet and not sustainable. She breezed over the weight issue and started asking questions about family history and a bone I broke last year (4th of July shenanigans, I totally deserved it). Towards the end of the visit, she said she'll do kidney and liver function baselines in case I decide to go forth with keto. This is when I got annoyed.

I told her I didn't understand why not one doctor in the past few years has brought up my weight. She shrugged and said, yes, while I have weight to lose, I'm also just "big boned" and "larger framed". I can only imagine my face when she said that. I then asked her to give me a number to shoot for, and she did a quick BMI calculation and told me that under guidelines, I should lose a little under 100 pounds. Then she looked at me and told me "you don't have to be within those guidelines, though." I understand everyone is different, but I'm here in her office telling her all about my family's crazy heart history and she's telling me I'm "big boned". I cannot believe that I have to essentially beg a doctor to tell me that I have to lose weight. What's the deal??
