Someone finally noticed my weight loss, and I recovered from major surgery in half the expected time.

I have been slowly losing weight since the beginning of the year. I have been doing IF and CICO and jogging almost everyday. I had major surgery on my foot 6 months ago and was told I probably wouldn’t be walking normally for a year post-surgery. Because I couldn’t walk for a few weeks and was in a lot of pain, I did the only thing I had the energy to do to take my mind off it - I ate. I put on an unjustifiable amount in 6 weeks and felt physically and mentally awful. So I decided to change it.

As soon as I was able to walk at all, I began taking daily walks to strengthen my foot. I also began eating healthy (meaning almost entirely cutting refined sugar and reducing simple carbs). It has been really difficult as I am living at home for the next 6 months until I finish a degree and my mom is not very supportive of me only eating healthy foods.

The first benefit of this change has been my recovery from major surgery. I had a small bone removed in my foot and a tendon re attached as I injured it hiking a few years ago. It was meant to be a 12 month recovery but due to a quite significant weight loss, I am not putting as much pressure on my foot and can now walk normally after only 6 months! I have even been able to run a 5k once or twice a week (my foot does still need rest days in between runs)! This is huge since I never used to be able to run 100m let alone a few kilometres!

The second thing, up until now, no one has said anything about my weight loss. I know that it is noticeable but I don’t think many people know how to bring it up. However, the other day I saw a friend who I hadn’t seen much over the last few months as we have both been busy. As soon as she saw me her mouth dropped and she exclaimed “oh my goodness, you look so good! What have you done? You look amazing!”.

I know that she still asked what was different, but I like not having to tell people I have been trying to lose weight as I never know how they will react. But her reaction made me feel really good, especially because I used to wear long, flowing, loose clothing and this time I was wearing skinny jeans and a skin tight body suit underneath.

I know it’s not a huge deal, but it was nice someone noticed and used it as a compliment instead of feeling like they couldn’t comment in case I’d be offended or they over stepped a boundary.

TL;DR A friend finally noticed I had lost weight and made me feel good about it. Stats: 22F 5’5” SW:163 CW:135 GW:125 Full-time Student, part-time teacher.
