My Friend [28F] Thinks Weight Loss is Pointless Because She Has a '40"' Rib Cage - Is There Any Evidence of This?

Hi! My best friend is morbidly obese and I've been trying to encourage her to lose weight, but her main reason for not wanting to is that she's 'big boned'. She believes that her rib cage is 40" wide and that no matter how much weight she loses she'll always be big, so there's no point. She does not have any form of gigantism, so I'm having a hard time believing her skeleton can be that big? If someone could link articles proving one way or another that would be great. I'm really worried about her health, especially as she approaches 30, but I don't want to force her to try to lose weight if it really will make no difference to how much she weighs.

Any other methods for encouraging a healthy lifestyle or ways to achieve it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
