Why is it so hard for people to believe in CICO?

So I've been doing CICO for 2 months now and it's been working really well for me. I haven't been keeping it a secret but I'm not the kind of person to talk about this kind of thing so I've never really brought up my weightloss to anyone else.

About 2 weeks ago my friend with PCOS comes back from the doctor's feeling pretty down because the doctor suggested she lose some weight to help with the symptoms.

She's not one of those people who are completely in denial about the effects of being overweight but, like me (before discovering CICO), she didn't have the most positive outlook on losing weight and kind of resigned herself to being overweight forever.

Although I'd never discussed my weightloss goals with her, she lives with me and was aware that I'd been weighing my portions, eating less takeaway etc. so I figured I'd ask if she wanted me to help her out a bit with sorting out her diet. She said yes and so I showed her how to calculate her TDEE, helped her set up a MFP account and she's been doing CICO ever since (and has lost 4lbs so far).

Unlike me, she tends to talk more about what's going on in her life. She recently mentioned to her mum about starting to lose weight and explained CICO and stuff and her mum seemed interested and suggested that she might try CICO too.

But then yesterday she started telling my friend about this weird liquid crash diet thing she saw on TV (I'm not 100% sure what it is but I'm assuming it might be something along the lines of Huel or a smoothie diet or something) and that she was gonna try that and that my friend should totally give it a go too.

My friend realizes that it's all bullshit and is already super happy with how CICO's been going so she's sticking to that, but her mum who's done so many crash diets and had weightloss surgery (which did work and she is in a normal weight range) just can't seem to get her head around it. It's just strange. She's super susceptible to believing that weird diets work but lost interest in CICO so quickly she didn't even start.

It's crazy that so many people aren't willing to try such a simple answer to their problems and continue to look for more complicated, less sustainable methods. I don't get it.
