I had the realization the other day that 90% of what I discuss with my colleagues or acquaintances for small talk is food or food-related. It is really easy conversation since everybody eats, but there is so much more to life than food. I made it a point to try and focus on conversing about things not related to food over the past few weeks and honestly, it's done a number on my appetite. I would generally discuss whatever I or my conversation partner had cooked or was planning on cooking and, to nobody's surprise, that would make me hungry.
This realization has a had a twofold effect on my life. Now I'm not only not getting hungry due to conversation, but I'm also starting to explore things to get into outside of food for the relatively shallow point of having something else to talk about. It's probably not a profound realization for most people, but it is for me.
Anyone else have this thought? I think it honestly may be a good mental weight loss strategy - don't talk about food!
