Let's face it, we have ALL been there. We're at it for a while, 6 months, 10 months, 1 year, 2 years and we hit this point where something changes. No its not the dreaded "I want to quit" feeling (which most of us have felt also) its that feeling of.... Well like... I feel happy right now so..... Then without warning it happens! A small break turns into a medium break and then a big break and then an even BIGGER break! Before we know it we have put some timber back on.
I'll put my hand up and admit I hit my lowest of 275 a few months back and currently just got back under 300 sitting at 299 having jumped as high as 308 once again. And boy did they pile on in a hurry. It's almost a little disheartening at times to see how quickly all the hard work we have done can be undone. At my worst just before I had my reality check I managed to pile on 10 pounds in less than 3 weeks. Now I know some of this will be the dreaded water weight but one day I know I smashed a burger with a poutine and washed it down with a 1,100 cal blizzard from Dairy Queen.
Disgusting really. And through this all it was not just my food, my diet and my waist line that suffered it was my strength, my fitness and my overall health. Not only did my calorie limits slack my gym time slacked. Oh my how I have paid for that as I have found these past 2 weeks as I crush the gym again. All my numbers are down. Max push ups from 52 to 30 . Wall sit from 4 1/2 mins to 3 1/4 and on and on and on.
Today while working out and struggling at things I used to dominate I yelled out "I AM NEVER TAKING FUCKING TIME OFF AGAIN". Boy did I mean it too. All this work, sweat and calorie counting is for nothing if I just slip back to how things were. I've talked on here many times (as have many others) about how what we do has to be a lifestyle change. Something we carry on forever and ever. We can't just diet down to a weight and go back to the old ways. The old ways got us to the point we started at of embarrassment and insecurity.
Yet through it all I don't look back on it with too much anger and regret. Disappointment? Sure. But from this I gave myself a reality check and a stern reminder of just what I need to do to continue to be the best version of myself. Taking time off was by the stupidest thing I have done so far on this 2+ year journey. It's not the only stupid thing by any means. But it certainly is the one that had the greatest affect on everything.
Losing weight I lost before is one giant kick in the groin. I don't wish to have to do this ever again. For now I have 24 more pounds to take off.... again. I, and all of us, will be forever learning and adapting on our journey. We will all struggle. But we all have the ability inside us to get back on the tracks and heading in the right direction.
Be strong. Be passionate. Be committed. Be absolutely everything that got you to the point you're at in your journey. 5 pounds, 50 pounds or 200 pounds it does not matter. Make it a lifestyle change and own it.
Forever sharing what I learn on this journey.
