A previous time I set about trying to lose weight (and succeeded) I bought digital scales to weigh myself (they were the Weightwatchers scales were selling in 2012).
There is only one room in our house that has a hard, flat surface and that is the tiled kitchen. But also there are only 2 places in the kitchen where the scales can be placed without rocking. So I tend to favour the one spot over the other as it gets more light and is easier to see.
However, over time I noticed a funny thing start to happen that made me stop trusting them.
The weight would stick at the same number, literally the same number, for multiple weeks, but moving it to the other spot it would change to a lower weight that made sense with what I knew I was doing. Then I would place it back in the original spot and it would then start showing the new weight. It was like it needed to be in a different place to give them a nudge to reset it and do a true reading again. I had tried a new battery and it was still doing it. So I started feeling like I felt I couldn't trust them.
Time passed. Due to depression and things weight was gained once again and during yet another attempt to lose it (which ended up being a failed attempt) I bought new scales. Non-digital, old-school Salter scales instead.
Unfortunately I'm not really liking these ones either as you can stand only a slightly different way and it affects how your weight reads. I don't like that they are that finicky. You can't consistently stand exactly the same way each and every time. Trying to read the thing is hard too, trying to see which line it's over means I squat slightly but this is applying pressure and I see the dial move even more. So I think I need digital ones again.
As of today this is what happened:
weighed myself on old-school scales = looked to be approx 13st 10lb digital scales in same spot = 14st 2lb. digital scales in alt spot = 13st 13 3/4lb. Placed back in usual spot = 13st 13 3/4lb
Oh and the old-school scales don't have that noticeable variation in weight between the 2 spots. I have checked that previously when I first got them.
So yeh, a long winded backstory of sorts, sorry, but are there brands of digital scales that you would heartily recommend, or that I should avoid like the plague? That you know of. I have been looking at some well-rated scales on Amazon that also do BMI etc readings but they're all brands I've never heard of so am somewhat reluctant.
TL/DR: Issues with current scales, do you recommend any scales or know of any to definitely avoid?
