Semi-healthy eating for us depressed losers

Like a lot of people, I struggle with pretty bad depression which, among other things, lead to a considerable weight gain. Since depression is a fickle mistress that might never go away, no matter how much you medicate it, most of us learn to work around it, instead of trying to live like a healthy person, which can be a good and a bad thing.

But today I'm not here to talk about long-term habits, today I'm going to talk about that work-around solution for when you're still depressed and have zero energy to do anything, but still want to improve your diet.

I call it THE SLOP

It's a low-effort slow-cooking meal that will last you 2-3 days, is quite cheap and yes, tasty.

Here's what you will need:

  • 1-2 pounds of ground meat: turkey, chicken, beef or even pork, if it's not too high on fat.
  • Around a pounds of either frozen or canned veggies
  • Optionally: soy sauce, tomato paste, spices, various forms of cheese for extra flavor.

You just unpack the meat, throw it in a big frying pan (no oil or butter needed) and add canned or frozen veggies. Do not defrost the frozen ones and do not pour away the water in the canned ones. We'll need all the extra flavor we can get. And then you just slap it onto the low-ish setting on your stove and wait for it to cook. Occasionally you will need to get up and do a little spatula work, but it's only needed about every 5-10 minutes. Reduce to desired consistency and add salt and optional ingredients.

There you go, a huge pan of low-effot, semi-healthy food that you are bound to not fuck up even while disassociating and barely comprehending reality around you. Trust me, I have a lot of experience.

If you want, you can always add your low-effort suggestions for those of us who struggle standing up to go to the bathroom.
