meal plan vs tracking vs just eating balanced?

hello, i’m 25F, 5’5 about 172 lbs. i gained 20 lbs this past year and this entire year has been a failed attempt at trying to lose it. the only time i ever lost any sort of weight was when i was 21 following a diet plan that a dietitian gave me. however i tried doing dietitian plans again and i don’t know why but i would have a hard time following them. i have weight watchers just haven’t really been consistent with it, and im going to another dietitian who advised against strict meal planning since its unrealistic and to instead just make my meals balanced 80% of the time and eat in a mindful way.

i’ve incorporated more fasting into my days and i think its helped but im still really overwhelmed and confused as to if i should be stricter and do a diet plan, or track with like weight watchers or a calorie counting app, or just focus on eating balanced.

which one worked better for you?? any help would be super appreciated, thank you!
