Wanting to gain muscle but terrified of gaining weight on purpose 😬

Okay so maybe terrified isn’t the exact word I’d use but I’m definitely hesitant. After spending my entire adult life obese, I’ve put in close to four years of hard work to lose weight and get down to a size I’d only dream about in my bigger days. I’m now at the point where I don’t want to lose any more weight; I’d like to tone up and add a bit of muscle.

I know this requires in most (all?) instances to eat in a surplus and gain weight. Just the idea of gaining weight on purpose after finally getting it off worries me.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Am I crazy and this is no big deal? 🥴
