Online calorie calculators, articles discussing calorie expenditures, and even treadmills aren't very clear what that number they're reporting for calories burned actually is. Is it the "extra" calories I've burned because I was cycling, or is it the "extra" calories PLUS the baseline I would've burned just by existing anyway?
Is the standard to report just the additional burn or to report both additional burn and BMR for that time period? I feel like some articles and machines report the additional + BMR to make you feel better about yourself, but that's not really helpful IMO. I want to know how many additional calories I burned by doing that instead of sitting in front of my computer
Anyway - how do I know what type of calorie count is being reported and is there a master database somewhere that reports only additional burns?
