Hey owners of Switches or relatives of Switch-owners: A game called Ring Fit Adventure comes out on Oct. 18. Here's everything we know about it so far. This will sound like an ad but bear with me.
(I know Fitness Boxing and Just Dance are a thing. Fitness Boxing looks pretty limited and Just Dance only really requires you to move your arm.)
I'm always looking for ways to work out within my small house. Many standard exercise options are either not motivating enough or impossible in my situation. For this reason, I'm heavily looking forward to Ring Fit Adventure and I think some people here might like it too.
Ring Fit Adventure is an upcoming Switch game that is controlled by one joycon strapped to your thigh (please god let the strap be big enough), and one joycon in a weird plastic ring. The basic pace of the game seems to involve jogging in place while occasionally flexing your arms, then when you enter battles, doing various different types of short form stretches/exercises in order to do damage. It features an approximate calorie counter and a heart monitor.
What I think is the coolest part is that it features two important accessibility options: Non-jogging mode, and difficulty scaling.
Too often exercise programs are at a set difficulty and take for granted various fitness levels. Being too unfit to follow through with a program (yoga, running) is, as we all know, humiliating and can make the cycle worse. Ring Fit will feature a mode in which you can bend your knees instead of actually jogging (less impact on the legs as well as being quieter), and some sort of setting in which you can change your fitness level to affect the difficulty of the game. These ideas sound simple, but they're honestly revolutionary for me and fitness programs. I've never encountered an exercise game or program that is genuinely adjustable to a point it can cater to..... 300lb computer goblin me.
(Other than the one time I got a trainer at the gym, but that's different. Trainers can be judgemental and mine didn't believe me when I said I couldn't continue. It was a mess.)
If you or someone you know owns a Switch and you want a shot at a fitness program that is designed to be very likely to work for you, Ring Fit Adventure comes out soon. The game will likely cost well above $60 since it comes with its controller peripherals, but hey might just be worth saving up for.
Should I post a review when I get my hands on it?
