In a months time, I’m going to propose to the most amazing woman I’ve ever met. She is caring, independent, affectionate, and absolutely beautiful.
Why am I posting this here?
Three years ago I watched my best friend get married (he looked so genuinely happy) and I remembered looking at myself, thinking why would anyone want to date me. I didn’t even want to date me. I weighed 270 lbs and had let myself go, I was lost and had very low self esteem. The next day, hungover as hell, I crawled onto this subreddit and I obsessed for the next year. I did everything that the posts/wiki said and the weight fell off. Discipline day in and day out, slowly I became a more confident person. Throughout this process I grew so much as a person, breaking mental barriers just as quick as the weight came off. I now have weighed 180 for the past two years.
After that year was up, i learned how to talk to women that i was interested in and slowly went on many dates with interesting and gorgeous women, most of which were great and showed me what I was looking for. Then a year ago, I met someone that just absolutely clicked. It was instant! (Not that we haven’t had our differences along the way haha)
Two years ago I decided to go back to school and finish a bachelors degree in human biology with an emphasis in dietetics. I now have secured a job in research and development at a food company and will graduate in 6 months.
The point to this post isn’t to brag, although I am so proud of myself for being disciplined. The point is that you may feel broken, you may feel useless, you may feel like no one will ever love you, I did. I had some issues that I’ve worked out along the way, but ultimately you decide your fate.
This subreddit has completely changed my life. I still remember my first post, under the name synonymforcreative if you want to check my history, funchords responded to me and just having that support from someone meant the world to me. Thank you for that.
It’s cliche as hell, but just keep showing up. Make it your top priority, look at progress pics as much as possible, envision what you want.
Because it’s not going to be easy, but you are worth your best fucking shot.
Edit: I will post links to relevant posts from my old account. Looking back at them, they may be more useful to someone than this.
