Hi guys, I've been a bigger girl my entire life but not really obese until I got my first after school job as a teenager and gave up sport to do it.
After reaching nearly 100kg three years ago I began the C25K program and also started using MFP, which helped me drop down to 76kg. It was the smallest I had ever been in my adult life, and I felt great! I could fit into nicer clothes and for the first time ever, I felt comfortable going out with friends to social events and was confident enough to even flirt with people.
Eventually, this led to me getting into my first serious relationship which lasted 2 years, over the course of which I was so careless and comfortable that the weight kind of trickled back on until I was almost at my starting weight again before the relationship ended mutually.
Over the past couple of months I have been eating better and have recently started attending weightlifting classes, in the hope of not only losing the weight again but also shaping/toning my body alongside it.
I'm currently about 10kg away from my original low weight point, and last night saw my mother who was complimenting me on my recent weightloss. However, then she hits me with:
"Whatever you do, don't lose as much as last time though."
Me: "Why not? I'm planning to try and lose more than that this time, actually."
Mother: "No, because when you lost that all weight from your face last time it made your nose look long and huge. It was really ugly."
Has anybody else ever had to deal with this kind of thing? My mum has been the most ciritical about my weight problem my entire life, and now she doesn't want me to fix it? I know I should just ignore her and continue along for my own health, but I'd be lying if I said this hadn't shaken my resolve somewhat.
How do you guys deal with negative friends or family?
