TL;DR: Don't let the one bad/cheat day ruin your overall habits and it isn't as bad as it would otherwise seem.
So this wasn't really meant to be an experiment, but it kind of turned into one and it reminded me of something, so I thought I'd share.
So Friday I decided I really wanted some pizza. Since I've been doing CICO I really don't eat pizza that much, I've probably averaged once a month over the last 10 months while I've been working on losing weight. The couple times that I have had pizza I have been pretty careful about not eating more than what I really should. Friday night I decided I wanted to have pizza from one of the big chains if I was going to have pizza, which I haven't really done since I started losing weight. The particular place that I went to has one problem; I don't really like their pizza after it's gotten cold, even if it has been reheated. I live alone, so if I ate only as much as would fit into my calorie budget, I would be throwing away at least half of the pizza.
So, I decided to say fuck it, I really love this pizza when it's hot. So I came to terms with it and thought; all right, how bad is it going to be if I eat the whole damn thing? After doing the math it would put me a little more than 1800 kcal over budget. I realized that that was ~half a pound and my weight fluctuates more than that over the course of a day. Chances are once the food weight gets through my body I'm not even going to notice that.
So I did what I felt like doing, I ate the whole damn large pizza myself. I have to admit, I didn't feel great about myself Friday night and Saturday morning, and didn't weight myself Saturday morning like I normally would have. Saturday around noon I was thinking about how uncomfortably full I had been the night before and I had an idea; I wouldn't weight myself until Monday morning. I would probably be relatively normalized by then and might only see a slight increase instead of the food and water weight I would see otherwise. So I didn't do anything else out of the ordinary Saturday or Sunday, just ate what I normally would and paid attention to not go over my calorie budget.
This morning I weighed myself and had a little bit of an epiphany. I was down a little less than half a pound from Friday. I've learned this lesson a couple times while losing weight, but every time I see it in action it really floors me. One day of even really bad intake isn't enough to kill weeks of good habits. As long as you don't let that one day push you into bad habits again, it isn't going to hurt that much to go a little crazy every once in a while.
