Just a little background; 1 year ago last week my wife and I returned from vacation and I stepped on the scale. Seeing the digital decimals teeter back and forth between 271 and 272 for a few seconds made me realize I needed a change. I stepped off the scale before it locked in on an official number, and took a step back. I had no idea where to go for information, or more so how it had gotten to this point. I had always noticed I gained weight, but not to the degree of which I did.
After a little bit of Reddit Researching I stumbled onto Keto, which was great. I ate strictly Keto for 5 months and got down to 230lbs before my anniversary. At this point I knew that I couldn’t do the Keto diet forever, I just couldn’t few that as a permanent lifestyle change no matter how hard I envisioned indulging on avocados left and right. I also realized that eating a ketogenic diet sort of messed with my digestion, so I took a break. I went back to a traditional diet, stuck to healthy foods, didn’t really track my calories but got into an intense manageable exercise routine which has now become a lifestyle for me.
But what I noticed was that even with this insane work out, eating strictly and being more mindful of how much I ate; I was starting to gain weight back. I didn’t climb all the way back to the top, but I noticed that the more I worked out the more I needed to eat; which my body seemed to horde all of the calories for “later on”. A few months after returning to a normal diet I was hospitalized with what was believed to be gallstones. Long story short; my body has trouble digesting certain proteins most of which coincide with animal proteins.
So two months ago, I made the switch to an o o-vegetarian diet. I’ve been tracking the hell out of everything I eat to make sure my macros are in check, and it’s been great. I weighed in at 207 this week which brings me to about 60lbs of weight lost. I’ve never felt better, and I’m excited to continue the downward trend! I’ve been sticking to an almost entirely whole food diet, and I’ve noticed insane gains not only to my running but to my weight lifting progress as well!
