When I first started I was 16 years old. Roughly 315 pounds. Terrible shape. Hated myself. Did nothing but sit at home and play Xbox. Liked nothing about my life. I knew that I couldn’t live my life this way so I decided to find a gym. One day I wandered into the gym and got a membership. This was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life.
I was training every day. Lifting, running, yoga, the whole nine. I got my diet right. I quit drinking sodas. Everything was on point. The weight started coming off fast and everyone noticed. In 6 months I lost over 100 lbs. now it’s hard to gain muscle when losing that much but I didn’t have any to start with. After I lost all of the weight I decided to try and maintain but build. Over a couple of years I slowly gained muscle and strength. Maybe gained 30 pounds over time.
I noticed I started to get a lot stronger. I decided to compete in powerlifting. The first competition didn’t go as planned. Pretty strong but could be better. Now I wanted to take it further. Training 6 days a week and eating a lot of food I said I’d move up a weight class. By the time I competed I was 270 lbs. I was in good shape with lifting but I definitely couldn’t run a mile anymore. I knew this wasn’t what I wanted to be.
After my meet I started my diet back. Mostly ketogenic style. Picked up right where I left off. Sill lifting heavy, running 5-6 days a week, clean eating, fasting, yoga. I could see the fat quickly coming off. In roughly 3 months I had dropped from 270 to 213 pounds. Now I’m in great shape, can lift heavy, can do yoga, can run 7 minute miles. I’ve learned that this is the physique that will make me happy.
The point of all of this is that you will have ups and downs. Yes, I fell off more than I should. My own fault for doing short diets instead of consistent ones. Anybody can do it though. Push hard and you can achieve those goals.
