I’ve just turned over a new lifestyle leaf and I feel great.

I had some pretty terrible eating and exercise habits in 2018 and the first month or two of 2019. I was under a lot of stress to complete my master’s degree and for me, stress=binge eating. I ate entire cans of Pringles in a day (until I discovered with horror how many calories are in each can), or way too many packets of wotsits, to name a few I’m particularly ashamed of. I think the only thing that stopped me from properly rapidly putting on weight was my retail job where I had to walk around a lot. But still, not good. I recognise that at least.

Recently though I’ve moved to the other side of the country with a new job which utilises my now completed masters degree, and I took the opportunity to turn over a new leaf. I’ve been here for just over two weeks and I walk about 1:15 hours every day commuting to work (about 5km ish a day), I’m trying to implement going to the gym a couple of times a week and I’m eating much healthier: no Pringles, lots of veg and very little chocolate, which surprises me because I used to crave sugar and chocolate and now: not so much. I also got a spiraliser with my recent birthday to cut down on carbs, though the only things it’s cut so far is one courgette and my finger. Those things are sharp!

I don’t have access to a set of weighing scales but I do have access to a mirror, and it was my appearance this morning that inspired me to write this post. I’m not morbidly overweight: last time I measured myself I was around 85kg (about 190 lbs I think?) but my BMI is around the 30 mark so I could definitely stand to lose a fair amount. This morning I noticed that my stomach poked out less than before, my collar bone seems more defined, and my waist seems slightly slimmer. It’s not much and I still have a way to go, but it’s motivating: especially considering I don’t feel like I’ve had to change much or put in too much effort to get here. I’m not struggling with my new lifestyle and I don’t crave junk food like I used to. I definitely feel like I can ramp up the gym sessions and push myself with my diet. So all in all, I’m feeling really positive for one of the first times in my life.
