So being a dutiful loser, I do indeed weigh my food at least once to establish portion sizes. I don't do it when repeating the same quantities, but I do have a good idea of how much things weigh, or so I thought...
I don't have a kitchen scale, my kitchen has next to no space left for more "stuff", so I've been using the scale I had for small parts. All well and good, but I forgot one teeny thing...
Here's the scale with the cover off. And, as I found out (well, remembered) today - here's the scale with the other cover off.
One of the reasons I'm using the scale is that it's very accurate - and I was kind of surprised how it wasn't working to the level of accuracy that I was expecting - that second cover rests on the the side of the scale itself, not on the weighing surface of the scale, so when I thought it was measuring weight, it really wasn't.
[sigh] Apparently a portion of the Chicken Boti Kebab from the restaurant isn't, in fact, 170 calories, it is really 470 calories. Not much difference, really. [sarcasm here, in case it's not obvious]. That still fits in my 5-700 calories for an evening meal, but it means that when I got a samosa (because I thought I was so far under, it didn't matter), well, it mattered...
I'm still doing reasonably ok - I'm down 26 lbs since Jan 9th, but it would have been nice to actually get, you know, real weights for things when I was "measuring" them. So, PSA people - make sure you take the lid(s) of your scale before using it to measure stuff.
[sigh]
