Exercisers of loseit, how long did it take you to see actual fitness results?

Hi everyone. I’m a 30yo 238lb female, 5’5”, PCOS, sleep apnea.

I have always had trouble building muscle, which is, im guessing, due to a combination of the PCOS, sleep apnea, and just generally having terrible eating habits and no knowledge of macros. But what I didn’t expect was that in a lot of ways my fitness level doesn’t seem to change, even when I’m active for prolonged periods and losing weight.

As an example, I had a chaotic serving/bartending job for a year. Even just doing prep I would be out of breath and sweaty — prep time was extremely precious so I had to move fast, and it always involved running up and down stairs a handful of times while carrying crates of liquor and other supplies, etc. After a solid year of this (while also suffering from a high-sugar diet and persistent GI issues/general profound inflammation) I didn’t seem to be any more in shape. My wrists and forearms were a lot stronger, definitely, so at least I have proof that my body responded somehow. But I would still get just as winded going up stairs, and my thighs would burn just as much, etc.

Even a few years before that, before any of my inflammation started flaring up, I took a twice-weekly walking class at my local community college. At the beginning, walking full-speed, I was around the middle of the class in terms of keeping up. Every day we’d meet up, though, my full speed got a little slower until I would trail behind the class by a quarter of a mile. I’d be busting my ass and there was nothing I could do. I’d be just as out of breath at the end of the semester as I was at the beginning and felt weaker than ever in every possible way.

For anyone who’s read this far, thanks, lol. I know there are a ton of factors feeding into this, and I’m currently trying to get an appointment with a dietician, a physical therapist, and, who knows, maybe a personal trainer eventually. But the other day I overheard someone making reference to how it should only take six weeks or so for someone to see marked improvements in cardio fitness, and I know that definitely doesn’t seem true for me.

Does anyone have any familiarity with my problem? People who have adopted fitness routines, how long did it take you to start noticing that your actual fitness was improving?
