I am new to this group so am unsure if it has spoken about much. I am currently on my weightloss journey (yet again), and was wondering if any people felt the same and how they have gotten past how I feel about food.
I have gone through my life either overweight or dieting. I'm a 31 year old female, currently just over 14st at 5ft9. I have lost 4/5 stone multiple times in my life and always end up back at around 14/15 stone. I have been doing weight watchers for 2 months, I've lost over a stone but it's very slow - I haven't lost any weight in 2/3 weeks, even though I can see my body is looking better. I exercise as much as I can but I have a herniated disc which makes it tough.
I know this is a mental issue about how I eat when I am bored / sad / tired. I don't really seem to ever get full no matter what I eat. My diet is actually pretty good, I am a pretty avid cook and make basically everything from scratch. I just am incapable of eating small portions and will binge at weekends (mainly on alcohol). I work best on a high protein, low carb diet but I find that it's very hard to maintain and is an expensive way to eat.
Every time I have lost weight, whether it's 2 pounds or 4 stone, I always end up going back and eating the same stuff and putting it all back on. If I have one bad meal or one bad day, it just spirals into many more days as I feel like such a failure and I hate myself for it and for how I allow myself to look. I know exactly what I need to do to get down to a normal weight again but I just seem to be mentally incapable of maintaining it even when I do so it just feels pointless.
Does anyone else feel like this? Has anyone who has experienced feeling like this found a way of to improve how they mentally cope with weight issues? I've looked at hypnotherapy and CBT, but I really don't want to spend loads of money on something if it isn't going to work. Has anyone had any therapy about weight issues? Are there any books/podcasts/forums that can help or support me?
I'm feeling really sick of going back and forth in this journey. Even if I could lose a stone or two and maintain that weight I'd be happier even though I'd still tehcinally be overweight. Beating myself up every time I eat badly is really harming my self esteem, but it's such a habit now I can't seem to break it.
