This is a little mental exercise a friend of mine gave me years ago.
When I feel down I...drink a bottle of Pepsi, eat a bag of ketchup chips and watch something mind-numbing on TV.
He did this so that I would put into words what I'm doing to myself and make the choice to do better. So I had to decide what that sentence should look like and how I want to live it. Now, 4 years later, I'm in much better health, don't feel so rundown and depressed all of the time and I have the energy to do the things that I used to love so much as a kid. I'm playing competitive baseball again ffs. I haven't done that since I was 17.
When I feel down I...grab a glass of milk, eat a couple carrot sticks and then play with my kids or hit the gym.
It doesn't work every day, but it works more days every time I do it. There are still days when I feel down, or when I don't hit a goal or get my calories just right and I beat myself up about it.
