That time I really should have taken the doctor seriously...

I'm a trans guy. I've been transitioning for over a year now. The first time I saw the endo regarding getting on hormones he required me to do a full blood work up so he could make sure I was healthy enough for it - and when the results came back, the following exchange occurred:

Doc: Your cholesterol is really high.

Me: Really?

Doc: Yeah. But it's okay. That's future you's problem.

Me: Um. Okay.

At the time I didn't think much of it because I wanted hormones more than I cared about my cholesterol levels. But I've since been diagnosed with other problems. I have chronic headaches and migraines (11 months and counting with no solution and no end in sight). I have a mass in my brain stem that can't be removed. I have nerve pinches in my back. I have arthritis in both knees. I have constant issues with food because my throat doesn't let me swallow properly so I choke every time I eat.

In short, my body is breaking down. And I'm only thirty-one years old.

No. No more. Losing weight isn't going to solve all of these problems that I have but it will certainly help with some of them, and given I have no idea how much time I have left I'm going to devote what I do have to living my best life.

I'm going to start treating my body as a friend instead of the enemy I thought it was for so many years. And hopefully we'll get to grow old together.
