Last week was a discouraging week at the gym. For some reason I just didn't feel like I was performing as well as I had been, or as well as I expected myself to. I brushed it off as being an "off" week.
Sunday we had friends over for the Superbowl. We didn't do a huge spread like in past years, but we had homemade guacamole, mini sausage pigs in a blanket, grilled chicken wings, amazing ribeye steaks, baked potatoes, salad and key lime pie. I grazed through the afternoon, ate reasonably at dinner, but definitely more than I normally would, and had a piece of pie and 1.5 hard ciders. I didn't feel guilty or ashamed, I knew I'd be back on track Monday and we enjoyed our time with friends.
Monday I went to my usual crossfit class during the day and was shocked that I nailed the workout! I felt strong and capable and energized. A complete turnaround from last week.
So now I'm not sure what to do with this information. I keep a 500/day deficit and lose about 1lb/wk. This has worked great for many months. I'm not hungry, I feel like I really found my groove and it's just normal life. At the same time, I really enjoy pushing myself at the gym and seeing the increase in strength and stamina I've been working so hard for.
Is there a point where you have to choose fat loss OR performance? And have I reached that point? Anyone had this happen before?
