calorie counting = tastier foods?

Has anyone else found themselves eating a better variety of actually good foods when they started watching their calorie intake? Like, before I would be heating up the same shitty microwaved meals, grabbing the same snacks, or ordering the same things from the same restaurants. I guess really thinking about what I’m eating and wanting to put my calories for the day to good use, not waste them on sub-par food, has lead me to eating more things that I really enjoy (in smaller portions), and not eating the same things every day. It probably helps that my primary focus is just calories, with a little bit of mindfulness toward balanced macros but not obsessively. I’m not doing some really restrictive anti-carb/no sugar/never-eat-anything-you-like diet.

What has your experience been in this regard?
