If you know you're gonna eat a bunch on either Christmas Eve or Christmas or both, and you calorie count, you can eat at a bigger deficit on the days leading up to it to prevent any stalls in your diet.
If you're eating to lose 1 lb a week, you're making a 500 calorie deficit to your maintenance calories. But if you increase that deficit to 750 calories or 1000 calories, you would be losing at a rate of 1.5 to 2 pounds a week, which is still sustainable for people. If you do this for a few days (right now its 12/17/2018, do it till 12/24/18), you will be burning 250 to 500 more calories than you normally do per day by eating on a diet, and come Christmas you can consider it as having
250 calorie extra deficit * 7 days of doing it = 1750 calories extra you can eat on Christmas day (or even more if you ate at a deficit of 500 calories more compared to your usual deficit), which is really a lot of food when you think about it.
A little sidenote though is that if you do this, you shouldn't go below 1500 calories for men and 1200 calories for women as those are the minimums set by organizations for health (although if you're close to it then for a few days it may be okay) . In addition to this, you can also add to the deficit by increasing the amount of exercise you do during those days, to burn more calories.
