How do you pick a goal in the healthy BMI range?

I told an older coworker I was aiming for 170, as the healthy range for someone my height(5' 10.5") is ~135-175, and he thought that was crazy, that 180 or 185 would be way better.

When I was healthy at like age 17-19 I was always around 165-175. I was pretty good shape, was on the football team so I had ok muscle mass going on, my cardio was trash. Even at 18 I went from 185 down to 165 at one point before starting college. So the last time I was under 160 was during puberty and doesn't seem like it is realistic. I know I will hit 170, but is it realistic to aim for 140 or 150, considering that?
