Help! I need to lose weight but have extreme limitations.

I have a spinal injury that keeps me from doing the exercises that I'd normally do to lose weight. Is there any resources for light but effective exercises for someone in my shoes? Also, is there a diet you'd suggest for someone who needs to lose a considerable amount of weight but might not be able to burn it off physically? My friends tell me to go low carb but I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian and from what I've seen, living where I do (very tiny town in the deep south) I can barely get what I eat now, much less if I eliminate more food. I want to feel and look better, I'm just coming up against walls and feeling super frustrated right now. :( any suggestions would be beyond wonderful
