Anyone go by MFP's recommended daily calorie goal, or do most people adjust it?

Just looking to see if people here stick with MFP's recommended daily calorie goal (and most important- does it work? Or do you think they give you too many calories?)

I'm a 29 year old male, 5'8 230lb. Goal weight is 180lbs. MFP has my daily calorie goal at 1980 calories. When i first started out I tried to be aggressive and I lowered that to 1500..then failed..and then i changed it to 1700..and still failed. I think I'm just going to try staying under what MFP recommends, 1980 calories. I won't reach my goal as quick as I'd like, but as long as it's consistent and sustainable I'll be happy.

Hoping MFP's recommended calorie goal is accurate and i won't be taking in more calories than i burn. Anyone else try not to adjust their recommended MFP calorie goals? How's it working for you?
