Advice for dealing with panniculus (belly apron)

Oh, the irony! Now that I'm losing weight, the skin fold beneath my belly has decided to act up. A small section of skin has become irritated (split, perhaps), and it really hurts! I put some Triple Paste (diaper rash) cream on it. I hope that helps, but I am now more motivated than ever to lose weight. My BMI isn't extremely high (29), so I'm hoping that the skin will snap back a bit. I have some questions for those of you who may have some experience or knowledge with this issue:

  • Can I use zinc oxide powder (instead of talc-based powders) as a dusting powder to keep the area dry and bacteria free? I have TONS of the stuff.
  • I want to use some kind of body-shaper/belly band to lift and support the panniculus, but I would like something predominantly cotton or other natural fiber material, so the area doesn't get sweaty and the skin can breath. Is there such a thing?

Any and all additional suggestions for dealing with this problem are welcomed with gratitude. I am not a happy camper right now.
