NSV: My skinny pants need a belt!

I have never been seriously overweight. People have always considered me the skinny guy, and many are surprised when I say I'm losing weight. I'm fairly tall at 6'1"so I've always carried a bit of extra body fat well. However BMI doesn't lie, and neither do beer bellies, even if work shirts conceal them.

Over the last 10 years since college I've very gradually let myself gain 30 lbs despite being a runner. The wake-up call was feeling two rolls of my stomach rubbing against itself one day while sitting in my office. So I picked up MFP a few years ago and got down to business with this sub's help; I was able to get back to my pre-college weight of 165 lbs and felt great. It was difficult because part of me always wants to eat 4000+ calories a day, but I was disciplined and did it in about 4 months.

I was then determined to build muscle at a modest rate, but a couple of injuries (shoulder/bicep insertion and inguinal hernia) slightly derailed my lifting plan. I did not scale back my food intake to match my injuries, and I wound up at about the same starting weight as before: 195. This time, I suspected I had more muscle because the training hadn't failed entirely, but I had also gotten careless and added lots of fat. My favorite dress pants, which (to be honest...) make my ass look great, were just too tight around the waist to be comfortable to wear. A belt was a completely unnecessary fashion accessory for these pants, because fricton did all the work. I could get the pants on (barely), but it wasn't pleasant and I started avoiding them.

I want a good looking body for my wedding and honeymoon next year, so I was determined to have both muscle and low body fat. My goal, vain as it is, is to have visible abs for my honeymoon. My fiance is joining me and we are using MFP together.

For just under 7 weeks I've been aggressively cutting (netting -1000 per day after accounting for exercise) and doing heavy lifting and running. The weight is coming off at exactly the rate predicted by a 1000 calorie deficit, precisely 2 pounds a week on average (science works bitches!) So I'm down around 13 pounds right now, although it's difficult to see the difference day to day.

However today at the gym after my shower I was putting on my tight pants and I realized two things:

1.) I had stopped avoiding them and was wearing them all the time recently without thinking much about it

2.) They were falling right the hell off my waist without a belt. There were at least two fingers width between waist and pants. I even had to re-cinch the belt when I got to work!

Anyways thanks for reading my long rant about pants. Just a great feeling I had to share with you all. The muscle is sticking around thanks to lots of heavy lifting, but the fat is dropping off at exactly the predicted rate. So I'm ending up with that V-shaped I was looking for. And my pants fit. What better feeling eh!?
