I joined a gym, but I'm afraid to go. How can I convince my anxious brain to be confident and go?

Last week I joined gym at the university where I work. I've never been the type to go to the gym. I think part of it is social anxiety and mild agoraphobia. If I have the option to not leave my house, I generally don't.

The other part is that I've always been awful at physical activities. I have asthma so my lungs wear out quick doing cardio. I'm weak, so my muscles start shaking quickly. And I sweat like crazy. Even worse, the last time I went to a gym, I got stared at unabashedly by several men as I did yoga on a mat. I'm not sure if they liked what they saw or were repulsed or confused or something. But it's an experience I would like to avoid. Working out is an embarrassing thing for me to do in front of other people.

The thing is, I'm in my early 30s. I've never been a thin woman, and looking at the other women in my family, I'm going to just slowly inflate at this point if I don't start doing something about it.

But I'm not even motivated to go. In fact I'm scared to go. I don't want to make a fool of myself. I don't pay enough for the membership for me to be motivated by paying for it. And I can't bring a workout buddy because the membership is exclusively for employees.

So, anyone have any advice?

How do I overcome my anxiety and go sweat my ass off a couple times a week like I'm supposed to, when I prefer to just be invisible?

How do I get over being embarrassed about being the plushy in the gym with all the stick figures and beefcakes I saw during orientation?

Also, are there any basic unwritten rules I should know about that aren't intuitive?
