First victory

To start with, this is my (F/20/5’6”/220lb) first time seriously trying to diet. I’ve always been at least slightly overweight for my size, but the the worst it ever got began a year ago. I was already 190 when I went to college, but depression came back and hit me like a brick and I gained 40 lbs without even noticing until it felt like t was too late. I kept eating and feeling terrible about myself, and I just became complacent. Even worse than that is my genuine sugar addiction; I work at a Walmart and I couldn’t walk to pay for lunch without picking up a candy bar.

More recently, I’ve been really thinking about my body and where I want it to be. I’ve always been embarrassed when I was out of breath by walking the stairs, but I started to notice I was out of breath just walking across Walmart at a good pace. What was even more important to me though was the fact that I didn’t feel attractive anymore. Most of the clothes I liked to wear didn’t fit anymore, and what did left me with the closet I had before I decided to dress confidently. I decided to diet specifically for my self confidence because of all of this.

In the past month or so I’ve lost ten pounds and I’m astounded, honestly. I’ve tried calorie counting before but I found an app I liked (finally! My Diet Coach if anybody’s curious) and got really invested in it. It was incredibly hard but I felt so miserable because of outside circumstances that this felt like the only thing I could control. Then a breakup happened and made it so hard to eat that it made the middle ground even easier.

However, the ten pounds isn’t the victory (yet). My victory that makes me love myself so much is that I ate ice cream yesterday and had to stop because it felt overwhelming. I have never in my life been overwhelmed by a small amount of dessert and I’m just so excited I had to share.

PS I just realized I haven’t eaten a candy bar since the first week.
