Every time I want to buy a pizza, I donate the money to my local food bank instead.
It takes about as long as ordering the pizza but it feels great the next morning instead of horrible and guilty.
Not all food banks use their donations as efficiently. My food bank provides a full meal for about 50 cents. So for less than $20 you can provide a small family with dinner for a WEEK!
It feels better to help than to binge!
Some of us (I'm speaking from personal experience here) grew up poor. If you didn't finish your food you were in trouble. It was rarely fun food, we never got delivery a single time as a kid. Not once.
Now as an adult with financial security, before my wellness journey began, I would often use food as a reward system. Ordering delivery, to me, is like being a millionaire or something.
Lets remember our roots and if you can't personally relate to being a hungry kid on food stamps or picking up the weekly box of canned food from the church, you can still relate to a degree.
You can relate because you have gone to bed hungry too, just by choice.
Imagine, what if the voluntary hunger due to caloric restriction was mandatory?
School free lunch was the best thing ever but summer time means mom has to provide an extra meal (or two if you had free high school breakfast like we did.)
You can make a difference today.
Set up an account with your local food banks online donation site so making a positive choice is as easy as grubhub.
The sad facts...
Food Insecurity
More than 13 million children in the United States live in "food insecure" homes, according to recent research from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). That means those families don't regularly have enough food to eat, the most basic of all human needs.
