Hi all,
I posted a version of this on the Maintenance Monday thread, but I think it could use a wider audience and I think it's something a lot of people struggle with. Or maybe I'm alone.
I hit my goal weight. Yay right? Except now I'm in maintenance, and as a small, only mildly-active woman, I'm on a maintenance of 1520 cals a day. Most of the time, this is not a problem. I live alone and cook for myself and have the luxury of planning and eating whatever I want to fit in those 1520 cals. I stay super healthy due to food sensitivities and fitness goals in general but mostly, it's the ability to plan that gives me comfort.
That is, until, unplanned things pop up. This morning, my coworker asked me if I wanted to get a beer this week. Sure! Weekly treat, no problem. Not thrilled about the carbonation and extra carbs, but I can work around it. It's just one beer. I could even just get a vodka soda if I really felt bad.
But then, later today, my bestie surprised me by coming from out of town to visit. She wants to get dinner tonight. Restaurant food makes me hella anxious and I already had dinner planned and half-made for tonight. She won't want it because it's super healthy and I won't force her to eat it obvs. Plus, she'll want to go to our favourite ice cream spot (it's super special and when you're coming from out of town, you're not going to want to miss it). Now I have to deal with two treat days in one week? Especially after dealing with a big one last Wednesday??
Not to mention, over the weekend, I had a full-blown meltdown because the boy I like wanted to take me to an Asian food festival, and I absolutely love Asian food. Any and all of it. It's a binge trigger for me. I didn't end up going, and felt extreme shame in the amount of relief it gave me.
How do you deal with things that pop up? How do you deal with anxiety over your goals? Now that I have the body I've always wanted, I am TERRIFIED about the thought of losing it and overeating my way back to where I was. But restricting portions, especially limiting myself to a small portion of "treat" foods and little else for the day bc of CICO, leaves me hangry, miserable, and incapable of focusing.
This leaves me with a problem when it comes to treating myself. I either do it with a small portion and stay hungry, and then feel like garbage for days physically and mentally, or don't and feel like I'm missing out on life or making other people's' lives hard. Drawing extra attention to myself at outings and events by not eating or drinking also increases the already-high anxiety.
Should mention that I'm a veteran of depression and anxiety issues and a huge part of me becoming healthy was successfully coming off my antidepressant. This is new though, and scares me.
What should I do? What do you do?
