I feel like there's something everyone should know before taking weight progress pics.

We can all agree that most of us are losing weight in order look better and what's better way to tell how good you're looking compared to when you used to be fat than watching before and after pictures, right?

Now there's an important thing to consider in order to have the most accurate progress pics so I will start with.

tl;dr : make sure you take your progress pics at the same place, using the same camera at the same distance each time, otherwise your comparison pics are most likely going to be deceiving. (you'd look fatter even tho' you have lost weight, or look way too slimmer even tho' you've just started losing weight)

Now for those of you who wants to understand the physics behind this, simply the furthest a camera is from the subject the larger that subject is going to look considering that we fill the whole frame with our subject everytime, here are some examples as proof:

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

If you go take a picture of your face from very far away and crop it in order to fill the frame with your face and then take another picture just after it but from a much closer distance it will look like you have lost weight while in reality it was just the camera distance that made your body look slimmer.

How bad this can affect you? well many of us were ashamed to take pictures of themselves when they were really fat, so usually we have one or two picture of ourselves with a group of people where the camera was far away from us, if you go take a selfie with a phone closer to your face and compare it to that other one you will deceive yourself thinking you lost weight while in fact it was just the focal length that changed.

I thought it's a good idea to make things clear for everyone in order to have an accurate comparison of our progress pics, and because someone from r/progresspics posted a picture of her face where there was a clear focal length difference between the pics, I said congrats for her progression and then I pointed out that next time she should compare two pics from the same focal length while explaining why but everyone kept down voting my comment for some reason, so probably a full post dedicated to weight loss in general and not just progress pics could be taken more seriously.
