Afraid of weights and machines? Don't know where to start?

So like a lot of people I see posting here when I first started at the gym I was lost/had forgotten where to even begin with weight training. And I while I can't speak for every gym and/or gym franchise in the US or outside it, I can say that the Planet Fitness, FREE, "Design Your Own Program" was worth the time and really helped me both be more confident and feel like each trip to the gym had a purpose.

The weights, especially free weights, were very intimidating but I knew I wanted to use them because I didn't just want to lose weight, I want to transform my body. I had my PF membership for about 2 weeks before someone told me about the free class where you get to meet with the trainer and design your own program. It sounded like what I needed because my rather busy life can't accommodate regular classes at the gym.

The session was really simple. I signed up on the app at my home gym and met with the trainer. He asked me my fitness goals, how often I'd be going and how long I wanted to be in the gym for my workout, what kind of workout experience/knowledge I had, and asked if I had any health concerns. I gave him my answers and in about 1 minutes we'd worked out a plan for me and he then demonstrated some of the excercises I was unfamiliar with and said to come back in 4-6 weeks and we'd come up with a new plan, which I did.

Doing this just the two got me so comfortable with weight training that I now seek out and try to develop my own plans based on my goals for a 4-6 week period (I base them on variations of celebrity workouts from online fitness articles.) And I am definitely not afraid of the free weights or machines.

So I don't know if every gym has this, it seems like a lot have something similar at the very least, but if they do and you want to lift weights in addition to the cardio. Take advantage of these free programs.
